Radio is the most important medium of mass communication in East and Central Africa. Productions in the regional languages, Kinande, Kisuaheli, Kinyarwanda and Lingala are more popular and gain more acceptance than those in the official languages, French and English.
There are local broadcasters in many places who diffuse the programmes, whose technical and personal requirements are quite differentiated. The creative potential within the population is just as pronounced as the enthusiasm to participate. UDUMA engages authors of radio programmes, health professionals and technicians, to support local broadcasters in the development of a ‘Radio-Soap’.
